Murrabit Football Netball Club

The long-awaited start to the 2025 season began with some significant rain across the region. The Macorna ground held up well and enabled a great start to the day with the U12’s cheered along by al that were at the ground. Mat Webb is once again in charge of the tiny tackers and everyone finished with a smile on their face!

Our U15 boys were gutted after the GF defeat in 2024. Keen to turn around the result, the boys have been training hard and were keen to start 2025 with a win. Egg Bray taking the reins once again as coach and supported by young senior star Ryan Harvey. Our lads made a mockery of the wet slippery conditions to blow Macorna away within the first quarter. The mercy rule taking affect early in the 2nd quarter froze the scoreboard and saw the older players to the bench as they prepared for their second game in the u18’s. Xav Hein kicked 3 in the first quarter to be amongst the best.

BEST: Jed McDonald, Xavier Hein, Blake O’Halloran, Jobe Hein, Archie McCombe, Austen Kelly

The U18’s fronted up to the reigning premiers and with the change of age groups it was a very similar result to the previous season. Macorna too strong across the ground. Our only goal coming in the firt quarter. Despite the result, our boys were gallant in defeat. Often outsized, it didn’t deter them from really attacking the footy and wil be better for the run.

Best: Leo Ellison, Angus Mcdonald, Xavier Murray, Jackson Brady, Henry Ellison, Riley Carse

The Reserves started the match in hot form scoring early to get their noses in front in the first quarter. Macorna hit back in the second quarter to take the lead at half time, a real arm wrestle from there with some classic 2s kick to kick footy. With multiple opportunities to score in the last quarter they will feel it’s one that got away.

Best: Matthew Davies, Jackson Brady, Josh Bray, Riley Carse, Brody Palmer, Simon Morton

Our Senior team were keen to start the season on the winners list. A number of new faces for 2024 all contributed to a successful start to set the tone. Adam Thomson up forward hit the scoreboard early and made the most of every opportunity. The battle in the ruck was epic with Ben’s soldiers taking the honours in the end. The heavy conditions were outshone by our players desire to win the ball in dispute, none more determined than returning former coach Bryden Morison. Our small fleet of runners McKinnon, Lampi and Pengelly toiled away all day and were amongst our best and goal kickers. All in all, Coach Shannahan was pleased with the contribution across the board and will have the team ready for the challenge against recent premiers Hay.

Best: Logan McKinnon, Jordan Lampi, Bailey Pengelly, Bryden Morison, Jack Shannahan, Adam Thomson

In the netball, the conditions were ideal as the rain stayed away and all grades were prepped and ready to take on Macorna for round 1. Our day started off with our amazing Under 12’s and they were as keen as ever to get on the court for their first game of the season. Awards this week went to Zoe and Mahli.

The Under 14’s had a strong start and were up by 4 goals at half time. Macorna pushed back and took the win for the day beating us by 4 goals. Harper Budjoso played a perfect game in goals while Charlotte Keath and Eve Murray were dynamite in the mid court, showing great versatility and drive.

Our superstar Under 17’s had a great first win over Macorna. The girls kept the Tigers to just 6 goals by the end of the first quarter and continued to soar up the scoreboard to win by 44 goals. Macy Bray showed off her slick moves in the goal ring and was well supported by Lexi McKnight as she dominated the mid court. Belle Morton was instrumental in defence as she continuously applied pressure to her opponents.

Our young C grade team were up against an experienced Macorna side. Whilst the girls were determined for a win, the Tigers were too good and beat our girls by 14 goals. Emmity Hartley used her height and strength to be a force to be reconned with in the defensive goal ring.

The B Res team had a tough day on court, with Macorna taking an early lead and setting the pace. Our girls showed great determination, pushing back in the second and third quarters to close the gap. Unfortunately, a string of injuries disrupted our momentum, making it hard to maintain rhythm and allowed the Tigers to secure a 9-goal win. Our mid court machine Taylah Collier was on fire as she provided direction and great encouragement to her team mates.

Our B Grade girls had a tight game against Macorna, but they held strong and maintained the lead throughout, finishing with an 8-goal win. After a solid first quarter, we led by 4 goals and the team continued to build momentum and surge ahead. Erica Cummins lead the team from the defensive end and worked tirelessly in the goal ring to pressure the oppositions goalies and create opportunities for our attackers.

The A grade walked off the court with a 50-goal win against the Macorna Tigers. With a few fresh faces in the team and some new positions being trialled, it took the girls a few minutes to settle into the game, however once they found their rhythm it was onwards and upwards. The speed machine, Lauren Morrow powered down the court providing amazing defensive pressure and precise feeds to the goalies.
