Moulamein Triumphs Over Murrabit in Semi-Final Clash

A Gritty Encounter Sees Moulamein Book Their Place in the Preliminary Final
The semi-final between Moulamein and Murrabit proved to be a contest worthy of its high stakes, with both sides showing tremendous skill and determination on a brisk afternoon. The atmosphere around the ground was electric, as passionate supporters from both towns gathered to witness their teams battle for a coveted spot in the preliminary final.
From the opening bounce, Moulamein demonstrated a disciplined approach, moving the ball swiftly and working as a cohesive unit. Murrabit, known for their resilience, responded with fierce tackling and clever forward play, but Moulamein’s backline stood tall under pressure. Midway through the second quarter, a burst of brilliance saw Moulamein pull ahead, courtesy of quick transitions and accurate kicking.
The match tightened in the third term, with Murrabit narrowing the margin through a series of well-constructed attacking moves. Yet, Moulamein’s composure never wavered. In the final quarter, they surged again, sealing victory with a late goal that ignited wild celebrations from the red and white faithful.
With a final scoreline reflecting their superior teamwork and hunger, Moulamein emerged victorious, earning a well-deserved place in the preliminary final and sending a clear message to their next opponent.
Moulamein Triumphs Over Ultima in A & B Grade Semi-Final Clash
A Hard-Fought Victory Paves the Way to the Preliminary Final
The atmosphere was electric as Moulamein clashed with Ultima in a thrilling semi-final showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final siren. Right from the opening bounce, Moulamein displayed determination and skill, setting the pace with early goals and strong defensive pressure. Ultima, never a side to back down, responded with resilience, closing the gap at halftime with a flurry of quick scores.
The second half saw both teams lift their intensity, with physical contests in the midfield and spectacular marks in the forward line. Moulamein's teamwork came to the fore as they moved the ball with purpose and precision, creating scoring opportunities that ultimately proved decisive. Standout performances from their key forwards and an unyielding backline anchored their lead.
In the dying minutes, Ultima pressed hard, but Moulamein’s composure under pressure saw them secure a memorable victory. The final score reflected a close but deserved win, sending Moulamein into the preliminary final with momentum and confidence. As supporters erupted in celebration, the team set their sights on championship glory.
Predictions:
Football Moulamein by 14 goals
Netball A Grade by 7 goals, Netball B Grade by 12 goals
Last week's matches and results.
I have seen some strong and determined football times in my seven decades, but never as strong as the one I witnessed from the timekeepers' box on Saturday. It was fantastic to see our major influencers play extremely well. I am talking Brett (9 goals), Heath (43 hit outs), Adam, a great foil for Brett, who played extremely well again, Josh Wills, Mr. Reliable, along with Will Gibson across half back. Blake, well, he is a magician and should poll well in the Brownlow. Mud seems to have found his niche at full back with Trae, Tobie and George, who could challenge for 10 seconds in the 100 metres, all played well. Special mentions to Xander, Ely, Jaydo and Ryan Atkins (who never give up). To the others, Ethan, Brodie, Mitchell and Swanny, you all played exceptionally well.
On we go
This is the Moulamein side that we have been waiting for with bated breath for a couple of years (try 37 years since the last hurrah). It was great to see Moulamein get challenged initially, then prove what a force we are. It's scary to think about it, but if we ever put four quarters together, a 50-goal game is extremely possible. Are we good? Are we any bloody good? Well, let me tell you again: as the first positive influencer all season, we're here to stay. I've been defending Moulamein against its early detractors; it now seems strange that they are lining up on the positive side. The Moulamein township and the district are now firmly entrenched as supporters who know the meaning of victory.
Netball
I have never seen a side as determined as the Moulamein A-grade side on Saturday.
In a gripping spectacle that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Moulamein emerged victorious over Wandella in a home-and-away match that will remain in the hearts of fans for a long time.  This is the only Moulamein side that I can recall, with surnames all starting with “M”, such as Michaelmore, Morton, McDonald, McGlen, McAtkins, McVistrarini, McRooney, as we all know “M” stands for magnificent. We would score six goals, take a two-minute nap, and then the lead was one. This cannot be allowed to happen again; we must continue to take advantage and press on to a stoic victory. We were very impressive against Wandella, and if we played like that again, Ultima can pack away their uniforms for another year.
These ladies are Moulamein’s Marvellous Netball Machine.
B Grade v Ultima
The last time both teams clashed, each had impressive form, each determined to claim the coveted victory. The atmosphere will be electric from the opening pass, with passionate supporters filling the surrounds and a palpable sense of anticipation in the air.
Moulamein unfortunately lost the match; however, they will have a stronger and more disciplined team this time. One can expect an exciting game this time, and I expect Moulamein to defeat Ultima and send them home winless.
The B-Grade is considered by many to be a worthy challenger for the ultimate glory. We must play as a complete unit this weekend to remove any lingering doubts about how good this side is. We expect perfection this week, and undoubtedly, we will get it.
Hot Dog and Soup Rating
We rated the hot dog; we gave it an 8.6. The hot dog was okay, but we had to hunt for the sauce; there was none in the clubroom, so we deducted a point.
The soup was Vegetable, and it was extra special, and we gave it a rating of 10

Finals are here, and we have three teams in, not bad for the mighty men and women of the Moulamein Football and Netball Club
