Kerang Football Netball Club
Round 3, 2025
The Blues head across the border for the second time this season today as we take on one of our local rivals, the River Raiders.
Last weekend we hosted Swan Hill on the field and courts, with significant rainfall the night before bringing a taste of winter to Riverside Park. It was also a special day as we marked ANZAC Round, and the club thanks to Darren Berry and the Kerang RSL for their assistance with the services prior to the A Grade netball and seniors football matches.
Off the field, our Ladies Day was another success, with credit going to all who organised what is becoming a highlight of our social calendar.
FOOTBALL
A quick start set up the Seniors’ 37-point win, with the Blues keeping the Swans scoreless for half of the match. Jordan McNeil and Bradlee Pay kicked two goals each, with Dominic Oflaherty, Bradlee Pay, Hugh Bremner, Cody Makeham, Martin Kelly and Bohden McKnight best on ground.
As with previous weeks, our Colts players boosted our Reserves side in a 72-point loss. Dylan Threlfall kicked four goals in a best on ground performance, with Darcy Murphy, Harrison Saunders, Jordan Clingan, Jonathon Roberts and Patrick Oliver also amongst the best players on the day.
Six of our Under 15s helped fill our Colts side, who battled hard all day against a stronger, fitter side in what turned into a 182-point loss. Campbell McAlpin (Cam’s Detailing), Mark Threlfall (Walkers IGA), Hudson Taylor (KFNC Canteen Committee), Oscar Greenwood (Zorba’s Pizza), Madden Walker (Murray Mallee Woodfired Pizza), Saxon Walker (McKnight Concreting) and Deklyn Jolly (The Fiit Space Kerang) received awards for their efforts.
The Under 15s found conditions tough in what turned out to be a 29-point loss. Oscar Greenwood kicked four goals, earning him the Coaches' award, with Madden Walker (Gordy Family Award), Saxon Walker (Cam’s Detailing), Charlie Greenwood (KFNC Canteen Committee), Declan Heffer (Murray Mallee Woodfired Pizza) and Harrison Gurnett also receiving awards.
Over on the second oval, the Under 12s tried their best against a tough opponent in wet conditions, losing via the mercy rule. Harry Grayling (Rumbold Earthmoving), Mason Rumbold (Kerang Plumbing and Pumps), Micah Steel (McKnight Family), Brodie Buckow (Austelle Farms), Elise Hayes (KFNC Canteen Committee), Eli Howden (Murray Mallee Woodfired Pizza) and Abel Howden (1% Award) were the award winners.
NETBALL
Our A Grade side came out firing against the Swans in their 10-goal win, delivering a first quarter that was nothing short of magical. Their movement was elegant, their decision making was smart and their teamwork seamless. Swan Hill were on their toes from the start, but Kerang maintained control, holding their lead with composed and skillful play. The intensity was clear on the girls’ faces as they fought hard for every intercept and contested every defensive rebound.
Best on court, Katelyn Wright and Denise Roberts lit up the scoreboard with impressive long bombs that dropped in effortlessly, showing real confidence in the goal circle. The midcourt girls were powerful and quick, creating strong link-ups and pushing the play forward with great intensity. Down back, the defenders stood their ground, pulling off crucial intercepts that helped extend the lead.
Overall, it was a strong, spirited performance from the whole team.
Bree Cordina also stood out, winning the 1% award.
Like their A Grade teammates, the A Reserve remain undefeated in 2025, also recording a 10-goal win. In what could only be described as a fast and furious game, Swan Hill got the jump on us in the first couple of minutes, but we fought back hard to even the score. Each contest was a hard-fought battle, with both teams giving their all. We managed to extend our lead with each break, showing our determination and persistence.
The final whistle saw us take the win in a tight battle, a testament to our hard work and resilience. It was a thrilling game that continues to showcase the potential within this side. Let's keep this momentum going into the next round!
A big welcome back to Jarni Gilmoure for her first game this season. It was great to see you back on court, bringing your energy and drive to the team. A special thanks again to Chloe Meehan and Laela Grayling for stepping up and filling in for us. We couldn’t do it without you both. We appreciate your dedication and support.
Emma Chamberlain (Royal Hotel), The Little Shoe Shop Award - Hannah Pay (The Little Shoe Shop) and Lily Velleley (Mat Coates 1% Award) claimed the awards.
Once again, the B Grade side kept their heads high in their 49-goal loss against a tough side in Swan Hill. We had some terrific passages of play down the court and everyone fought hard to the end. Brylee Clingan (Legend Apparel), Harley Tarr (Mat Coates Electrical 1% Award) and Kobie Waddingham (Kerang Truck and Trailer) were the award winners.
The 17 and Under team played a great game in their victory against the Swans. The pressure was great right down the court, as well as encouragement right through the team. The club can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings! Chloe Meehan (Zorba’s Pizza), Steph Bilton (Ladies Day voucher) and Coco Crellin (The Fiit Space Kerang) were the award winners.
It was a tough day for the 15 and Under side, however everyone should be super proud for putting in 100 per cent effort in the 46-goal loss. Everyone is starting to gel together, which is great to see. Awards went to Rachael Peacock (Zorba’s Pizza), Brooklyn Buckow (KFNC Canteen Committee), Eisha Towle-Wise (Chino’s), Macey Hall (Gray’s Bakery) and Marli Doyle (Chesnais Family).
The 13 & Under side were competitive in a 13-goal loss. The improvement in everyone is amazing, with the set plays working. Carla Peacock (Kerang Plumbing), Ruby Shepard (Rumbold Earthmoving), Tahlia Rumbold (KFNC Canteen Committee) and Taneisha Thamm (Zorba’s Pizza) were the award winners.
All in the 13 & Under Reserve played a wonderful game in their loss to the Swans, with new positions and a wet court making for a fun-filled game. Fantastic defence also occurred all down the court. Millie Cameron (Kerang Plumbing and Pumps), Gabby Bico, (Drew Robertson Plastering), Ashleigh Stevenson (KFNC Canteen Committee) and Emmy Murphy (Zorba’s Pizza) were the award winners.
